The Biggest Loser and A few pounds came back...

Well, here is my entry to try to get on the biggest loser contest. Over the past few months I haven't been as diligent as before and gained back 10 lbs. I'm not worried though. I'll get rid of those and more soon enough. Wish me luck!

A little more weight loss...

Well the increased workouts are working, who would've thought, I'm back on the weight-loss train. Sure it's a slow start but it feels good to be losing rather than maintaining (like I have been for the past 3 weeks). I now weigh-in at 386 from 454, that's 68 lbs. I spent this weekend at Con-X-Treme, a first time convention featuring martial arts and 3D Animation, at the DoubleTree Hotel. I got to meet and talk with Robert Picardo who was awesome and funny as heck, a real down to earth kinda guy with super acting/singing talent. I had a great time until I found myself in a Klingon Bar, The Black Hole. I accepted their challenge of 4 different drinks (as a matter of honor) starting with the Disruptor Blast and ending with an Honerable Death. In the middle I had a drink named Revenge (a drink best served cold) and something else that I can't, or wont, remember. I had a great time but the minute it was time to lay down, well, I'm sure some of you out there can relate, let's just say it wasn't pretty and my body still hurts when I cough. I must admit, having a party on the entire 2nd floor of a hotel is just too tempting of an environment for me to resist the party animal's call. Let this be a lesson to all, when you do lose weight, you do not retain the same ability to imbibe, less body weight = faster acting effects, remember it, write it down, then, like me forget it and learn the hard way. No, really, what I did was a bit dangerous, if I had done that after losing 100 lbs. or more, I could have really hurt myself. So, be careful, especially around Klingons.

Flippin for Weight Loss...

That trampoline is a really great exercise, I hear that it's not aerobic, or that you would have to be very fit in order to make it aerobic, and I noticed that my knee felt a little hurt when I was done with the above video. I'll keep you guys updated with my progress as the pounds fall off.

Days 84 through Days 97 Life can get in the way...

Ok, now for the boring condensed version of the past week of exercise and food intake:
Day 84 (Friday 6/15) - Food intake was pretty standard Shake for breakfast and dinner and Trader Joe's for lunch. Exercise log: 50 minutes of cardio in the morning, 50 minutes at night, ab workout and legs.
Day 85 (Sat (6/16) - Day of the 29th annual Highland Games in Campbell, CA, and a day of cheating food intake and gym time. I had to be there at 6:45 am to start setting everything up so I woke up at 6:30am and ran out the door without thinking of grabbing a breakfast bar. Breakfast is served, two bangers, eggs, toast, some ham and a lemonade to wash it all down. Worked half the day in the sun, the other half sitting in a chair watching a gate and the games. I brought a bunch of gum to try to keep me from snacking on all of the delicious foods. It worked for most of the day, for lunch I had a nice sandwich, a small bag of cheetos and some potato salad, it was probably close to 1000 calories. Then as the afternoon wore on, I started to crave some of the foods you could smell in the air. Just before closing, I snuck in a fish and chips meal and a small meat pie. Really not the right thing to do. When I got home, I was really tired and took a nap, that ended up lasting most of the night. So, no gym for Saturday.

Getting late for now, more to come later...
Day 94 (Monday 6/25) Quick entry so I don't have to keep this written down: Food intake, started a 9 Day Cleanse program today so I had 2 packs of organic oatmeal with flax seed, 2 bags of popcorn (100 calories each) 2 apples and lots of sugar-free gum.
Day 94 Exercise log: 50 minutes of cardio in the morning and 50 minutes at night! This time at a resistance of 15 and an incline of 15. It was getting late at the gym so I skipped any strength exercises.

Day 95 (Tues. 6/26) Another quick entry. Finished another day of cleansing, I had minimal food intake, Bag of popcorn, big bag of celery
Exercise log, 50 minutes in the morning, then the Isagenix party I was at ran late, so no gym tonight. While I was driving home I felt the pull of Taco Bravo, I even went so far as to think about what I would order. The I shook my head around and realized that I only have 3 more days left in the contest. Cheating now would just be lazy and weak. I didn't go, I drove straight home and started typing this after a while.

Day 96 (Wed. 6/27)Yet another quick entry: Food intake was good, a Isalean Bar for breakfast, the Trader Jose's Rosemary Chicken and a chicken salad for lunch. Dinner was a kitchen sink Isalean Shake. Exercise log: skipped in the morning, 50 minutes at night.

Day 97 (Thurs. 6/28) - TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY! Today it was a kitchen sink for breakfast and dinner and two salads and a sushi tray from Trader Joes. I exercised for 40 minutes of cardio in the morning, none at night.

Ummm...for some reason I had thought that Friday was the last day, it just made sense. It seems that I wasn't paying attention to the date, just the day. It's Saturday, June 30th and today is actually the last day of the contest, I doubt that I have lost any more weight in 24 hours, so I'm sticking with the final number of 392 pounds, 62 pounds lost. I'll have a new video up shortly with the results.

Life can get in the way & Help for a YouTuber

Fortunately I kept writing everything down so I don't have to keep it in my brain. Sorry to be gone for so long for the last week I have been allowing life and work to take all my time up. The best thing to do is to get back on track and sprint to the finish line. Before I post up all the boring details I'd like to post an email that I typed to YouTuber (one who communicates through the website www.youtube.com) "physiqueness01" who was asking for help. I'm hoping someone out there will be comforted by the message, understanding that not everyone out there has the great support of friends, family, and all of you guys reading this blog. I've been very lucky to receive such support and it really amplifies my efforts and aids my success. Thank you all. Here is the message:

I did 2 pre-cleanse days then 2 cleanse days but i cheated my hubby and the kids and i went to a friends and they didn't understand what I am doing they think I am crazy and insisted I eat so I did and it was pizza of all things uh. So am I screwed cause i know it is important to follow the program especially on cleanse days???? What can I do to help undo what I have done I gain my 2.6 back that I had lost so disappointed. Am

Reply from zach4lifevblog:
Well, cheating is going to happen, that's just life. Over the past 90 something days I did my fair share of cheating, you can read about it in my blog at www.zach4life.com.
The best advice I can give you is keep going, push through all of the guilt and doubt that you can't do it. I know it doesn't always seem easy and I too have given in to peer pressure, the best thing you can do is to get back to the plan and keep going. Once you stop, it is sooooooo easy to not start back up again. I found so many valid excuses to cheat or not go to the gym. Things like work or holidays, I can reason my way out of the gym in a second.
What worked for me is just sitting down and telling myself that I do want to lose weight, that I am going to lose weight. I will not stop until I have reached my goal. Sure, I may cheat or be lazy every now and then, but I get back to it the next day, sometimes the same day. For instance, today I went to my boss' wedding, I pigged out and had a mountain of food. The "Mountain of food" for dinner was definitely more calories than the Isagenix shake I should have taken, probably by a few thousand calories, give or take a few more thousand. After the reception we (me and my girlfriend Jackie) came home and took a nap. When I woke up around 11pm, I got in the car and drove to 24-Hour Fitness for 50 minutes of cardio. Tomorrow morning I'll be back on the shake/meal/shake program. I know this "pigging out" has slowed my progress, but I'm not going to let one meal stop me.
I don't feel really qualified to give any kind of advice on how to speak with your husband and kids. I think the best thing you can do is to tell them that you are trying to do something healthy for yourself and that it would be a whole lot easier with their support.
I wouldn't worry about the 2.6 pounds, I can gain that by drinking a lot of water in a short period of time. The point is, it will all pass eventually. One of the best things you can do is to always weigh yourself at the same time every time so you don't have to worry about little fluctuations in your weight. For example, I weigh myself every Tuesday after a 9-day cleanse, after work, but before I eat anything for dinner.
I hope some of this has helped. With your permission, I would like to put all of our comments on my blog so that others my read it and be helped by the ideas.
-Zach

Day 82 and 83 More Garlic Chicken Tofu Suprise!

Day 82 (Wed) and 83(Thurs) Food intake: IsaLean Chocolate Shake blended up Kitchen Sink Style! My blender Wushu is very strong. Lunch for both days was the wonderful and delicious Garlic Chicken Tofu Surprise prepared by my girlfriend Jax. We are thinking about adding green onions and maybe some egg but we have to balance out the calories. For dinner, both days, I had the IsaLean Bar for dinner (which I just finished). At work I wanted a few things to munch on so I brought a veggie bag, 2 apples and those great little 100 calorie bags of popcorn.
Day 82 Exercise log: I did 55 minutes of cardio in the morning and visited my Chiropractor in the evening, so my back wasn't ready to get on the elliptical at night.
Day 83 Exercise: I woke up late so I was just 20 minutes of cardio in the morning and I worked late so it was only 45 minutes of cardio in the evening. I am beginning to suspect my brain of trying to trick me into eating fast food. For the second time leaving work I felt this unexplained sadness, the kind that I used to treat by eating, usually fast food. This time it was easier to deal with because I recognized right away that I had no reason for sadness. I started analyzing my feelings and noticed that they happed at the same time, two days in a row. I've really been trying to concentrate on breaking my dependence on food to treat depression, however mild it may be. It's the link between food and happiness that seems so normal. Food does make me happy but I can no longer be dependent on it to create happiness. I guess it's not so important to break the link between food and happiness, that would be unnatural, it's more like breaking the need, or dependence on food for happiness. I'm still trying to figure all this out. For now, I have to go get some sleep. Goodnight!

Day 80 and 81 Two more cleanse days down the drain...

Days 80 and 81 were cleanse days so the food intake was minimal for each day:
The "Cleanse for Life" supplement 4 times a day 4 oz. each time mixed with water and some Crystal Light to make it taste sweet. 2 bags of 100 calorie popcorn, 3 apples, some celery sticks and the 8 Isagenix "Snacks!" On day 81, Tuesday, I also had a veggie bag filled with cucumbers.
Monday, Day 80 Exercise Log: 45 minutes of cardio in the morning and 20 minutes at night. The full ab workout and lower back exercise.
Tuesday, Day 81 Exercise log: 20 minutes of cardio in the morning and 50 minutes at night. When I left work, I just felt sad, I really didn't want to go to the gym. I didn't have a reason for being sad, I just wasn't happy about having to work out yet again. I also wanted to go eat, fast food. I didn't really get as far as thinking where I wanted to eat, mostly because I immediately recognized the behavior. Treating depression with food. I called my girlfriend and she said that I would feel different if I just put on the headphones and got on the elliptical. I didn't believe her but I went anyway. An old favorite song (Party at Ground Zero by Fishbone) came up on the XM just as I was parking the car, it really lifted my spirits. I got in there and set the elliptical to 14 resistance and 14 incline, the highest level I've done yet, and then decided that I would start doing 50 minutes each time. I also did another ab workout, upper and lower, and 2 different chest exercises, inclined and declined. I did end up feeling better when I was done.
I can't wait to drink my shake tomorrow morning!

Day 79 Finally back on the Keyboard, one big update...

Ok, how to start this...
Good news first, as you can see in the latest video, I broke 400. Yes, I'm down to 398.5 pounds, to be exact, which not only makes me feel good but pumps more money into the Pound-a-thon.

Day 72 (Sunday) Food log (continued from last post) Lunch was 2 Lean Cuisine meals and dinner was another bar on the way to the gym.
To end out the week I went back for another 45 minutes of cardio, I was still too sore to do abs but I did exercise my lower back. The extra Monavie is helping out, I'm still sore but it's not as bad.

Day 73 (Monday 6/4/07) Food intake: IsaLean Bars for both breakfast and dinner. Veggie bag and two apples for snacks and two Lean Cuisine frozen meals for lunch. Exercise Log: 45 minutes of cardio in the morning and evening after work.

Day 74 and 75 (Tues. & Wed.) Were cleanse days, so for both days I had the following: The Cleanse For Life supplement 4 times throughout each day along with enough water to equal a total of about 180 oz. I also had 2 apples, the infamous veggie bag (radish, yellow bell pepper, cucumber, and celery), 8 Isagenix Vanilla Snacks and two Isagenix Slimcakes
Exercise log for Day 74, Tuesday, the usual, 45 minutes in the morning and 45 at night. I was able to do light abs then straight over to the leg machines. I did 3 different leg exercises, 3 sets, 10 reps each of medium weight.
Exercise log for Day 75, Wednesday: 30 minutes on the elliptical in the morning. After work, I finally saw my chiropractor so he could take a look at that pain in my upper back. It's been bothering me for near 2 weeks. After the adjustment my lower back was feeling weak and I had to go help my friend Tony again so I decided to take the night off from the gym. I also had a lot of design work to catch up on, so after the chiropractor and a stop at Tony's house, I stayed up until 4:00 am working on the computer. Which leads us to Thursday, Day 76...

Day 76 (Thursday) Exercise log: This one is pretty easy, both to do and to write. None. Zip, nada, nyet. I was way too tired after only 2.5 hours of sleep (I know, bad Zach), and only narrowly got up in time for work. I worked 'til 8:00 pm and came home so tired I didn't eat anything for dinner, just took my Monavie and crashed. I told myself I'd go to the gym after a "nap", but a nap from 8-9:30 did nothing for me. So I was in recharge mode until this morning, which I really needed.
Day 75 Food log: I ate well though, with a IsaLean Bar for breakfast and some of Jax's Garlic Chicken Tofu Surprise. The surprise was bean sprouts, and this stir-fry also contained rice, zucchini, and soy sauce, which brought it to about 580-620 calories for a heaping serving. It tastes great and fills me up, and I didn't have to cook it! Jax really hit a home run with that recipe, email me at zach@zach4life.com if you would like to try it.

Day 77, Friday's Exercise log: Back on track, I got 70 minutes on the elliptical before work then 60 minutes at night to try to make up for the past two days. I'm comfortable doing a full ab workout again, that's 3 sets of 10 on the upper ab workout machine, then another 3 sets of 10 doing leg lifts for the lower abs.
Day 76 Food log: IsaGenix "Kitchen Sink" Vanilla Shake for breakfast, the same great Garlic Chicken Tofu Surprise from yesterday for lunch then a IsaLean Bar for dinner.

Day 78 and 79 THE WEEKEND! Weee! Ok, for both days I decided to do one big workout session in the middle of the day so I could have more time to relax. On Saturday I tried this and after about 65 minutes, I was worn out. I did my full ab workout and used a lower back machine. On Sunday I was feeling rested and really strong, I did the full 90 minutes of cardio, 45 minutes, then weight train, then back for another 45 minutes. For the weight training I did my full ab workout again and worked out my chest.
Food intake for both days: It's been IsaLean Shakes all weekend long, for breakfast and dinner for both days. I also had a hard boiled egg as a little snack with each shake. Lunch on Saturday was a Lean Cuisine and some spaghetti. Lunch on Sunday was a great Shrimp Primavera dish that Jax whipped up. I also cheated a little by bringing home some sugar-free, low-fat, low-calorie frozen yogurt from the Willow Glen Frozen Yogurt Co. down the street from our house. I know it was a little outside the meal plan but it was warm and seemed just right for a Sunday afternoon.

Day 70 and 71 - Sock rockin' news for everyone out there...

In reference to the last post: I would recommend at this time, to go check your sock drawer, and listen closely. Although socks do in fact have a tendency to rock, they lack the electronic or even the acoustic ability to do so in their pedestrian form. So, I theorize that the rockin' that socks do, in their most common form, would be quite difficult to hear given the limitations of the human ear.
Now I'm just being silly, do you see what waking up early on Saturday mornings does! What a great excuse to sleep in.
Anyway, I'm off to the gym, I have to make up for last night, fell asleep before I could leave the house, I was just laying down for a minute, when that minute stretched out and fell asleep over the next 8 hours. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'll put the info down for yesterday and this morning, then get outta here.
Day 70 Exercise log: Got up early again and did 45 minutes of cardio before work. After I finished up at 8pm I went home to get some design work done but ended up sleeping.
Day 70 Food Intake: Had an IsaLean Bar for breakfast, the Trader Joe's Rosemary Chicken with wild rice and a Low Fat chicken salad again, I still love that lunch, it's very filling and right around 600 calories.
Day 71 Exercise (so far): I'll be at the gym for 90 minutes of cardio to make up for last night. I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to do it all at once so I'll do some muscle training inbetween two 45 minute sets.
Day 71 Food intake: I plan on mixing up a Kitchen sink in a few minutes. Lunch was an IsaLean Bar so that I could eat dinner with my girl, her Mom, her Mom's friend Barbara (a wonderful person who pledged on the pound-a-thon) and Jax's and my friend, Mandi. We all went to Pluto's for a dinner salad. Afterwards I took them all to Cocola, the desert and coffee place in Santana Row, while I was there I went a little off the plan by enjoying a cafe' au lait and some bites of a few pastries.
More to come later...
...later...
I did it! one and a half hours of cardio PLUS strength exercises, biceps and triceps, 3 different exercises for each muscle, each exercise was done in 3 sets of 10 reps. I first did my 45 minutes, making up for not going to the gym on the night of Day 70 (Friday), then the weights, then back for another 45 minutes of cardio. Then around 11pm on Saturday, Day 71, I went back for anther 45 minutes of cardio that's 2 hours and 15 minutes of cardio in one day!
It's Sunday, Day 72, while I am typing this and let me tell you, I am sore, my muscles are aching like nobody's business, it's extra Monavie for me tonight. I just had my breakfast "kitchen sink" shake and I'm getting ready to go back for another 45 minutes of cardio and I have to work out my abs, I've been trying to avoid doing abs because they're the hardest and the one muscle group that really reminds me how big I still am. They also cramp up pretty fast so I have to keep the weight very light. I also feel a little self-conscious about lying down to do leg lifts or crunches, It just feels like my stomach is sticking out or my legs are too big or whatever, it's just another thing to deal with that makes just getting to the gym even harder. The best thing for me is to listen to my music and try not to think about it. I'm off to the gym.

Big Decision Time...

7:00 AM - it's 7am on a Saturday and I'm awake, that's news in itself...
A little while back, in the comments of the post entitled "Day 57 - A Quick Update..." I had promised an anonymous person some news that would "rock your socks off!"
Since I did in fact use an exclamation point at the end of my sentence, and therefore created an certain expectation of sock rocking that would occur sometime in the near future. So without further delay here it goes:
In addition to the pound-a-thon funds that we are raising, I will be donating any of the cash prize money I receive from the IsaBody Challenge, which could be as much as $10,000. All of the money is being donated to Bay Area Committed to Kids. What is BACTK? Well, Bay Area Committed to Kids is an outpatient, family-based weight-management program that uses a multidisciplinary approach involving a pediatrician, behavioral counseling, nutrition education, and exercise. Their services are offered both individually and in groups. That's from their website, it's nice and all but it's not really why I decided to dedicate my possible cash winnings to them. I visited with them during one of their group exercise sessions and saw what they were doing firsthand. After talking with the doctors and seeing the kids' faces, there were two things that really stood out in my mind.
First, for every child present, there was a least one parent with them, participating in the exercises and being supportive. I saw that this wasn't just some place where you could drop your kid off; as a parent, you have to step up and realize that parents need education too. Children rely on parents, in words and by example, to learn how to live and be happy. BACTK requires that at least one parent attends every session with their child. I can see this type of program having a far better success rate at not only helping the child become healthier but, by including at least one parent, gains access to the family as a whole, increasing awareness, health education and creating an environment of support and encouragment. I think BACTK says it best on their website, "Families who work together reinforce themselves in ways that health professionals cannot".
Second, these kids are our future. You can do the research, it's all out there, more and more children are obese, not just here in California, but everywhere in the U.S. Obese teenagers are 80% more likely to be obese adults. It happened to me, I was obese and now I am classified as morbidly obese. If I continued living like that, I would very likely be seeing the inside of a hospital in under 10 years. Could I afford the treatment? Who can really say, but I know that my capacity to work would have been diminished by my condition. Now multiply that by the number of obese children in the United States. The research is out there and the numbers are clear, if we do not do something to prevent this epidemic, it's going to cost us all a lot more than $10,000.
I know that this post was a bit more serious than I normally enjoy typing, but this is a serious issue and it deserves to be handled seriously. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts.

Day 69 - Back at the Gym Full Time!

I did it! The interview with the author was rescheduled for next week so I hit the gym after work.
Exercise log: 50 minutes of cardio in the morning and another 30 after work. 80 MINUTES TOTAL! I'm working up to my new goal of doing 100 minutes of cardio a day. I've also started increasing the resistance and incline angle of the elliptical machines. In the morning I go over to the Parkmoor 24-hour because it's closer to my house. I get a good workout there but it's not as intense as my evening workout. I'm just not as comfortable there, and they have a better TV system, so I'm not listening to my music and matching the beats to my exercise pace like I do in the evening. After work I head over to the Hillsdale 24-Hour because it's on the way home. I like this one because it's not as brightly lit and I'm very comfortable on their machines. I just blast my MP3 player and pace myself to whatever song comes up on the random selection play list. I really enjoy it, I take off my glasses and get lost in the music, before I know it, 15 minutes have passed. Oh yeah, while I was working out in the evening I also used the handrails on the elliptical to get an upper body workout (isometric). I just put my hands on the inside of the handrails and push outward until I can't push anymore, then put my hands on the outsides of the rails and push inward, again until the muscle is exhausted. After that, I put my hands on the top of the rails and push downward until my triceps are too tired. Lastly, I'll grap the rails at a lower point and get into a dip style position, then do as many mini-dips as I can handle. I can't tell you how much more this makes you sweat.
Food Intake today: For breakfast and dinner I had an IsaLean Bar, at lunch I had Trader Joe's Chicken Lasagna (300 calories, 13 grams of fat), a Low-Fat chicken salad (about 150 calories with dressing, and I think 3 grams of fat) and a 100 calorie Mint Chocolate Luna bar.
I gotta hit the shower and get to bed, goodnight.

Day 68 - Still trying to squeeze more time out of one day...

Food intake today: 4oz. of "Cleanse for Life" 4 times today, mixed in a water bottle with some Crystal Light, a total of about 200 oz. of liquid throughout the day. I also added the "Want More Energy" electrolyte additive to each of the bottles just to make sure that I was keeping my electrolytes up. I had 2 apples, 3 SlimCakes, a bag of veggies and some raw almonds.
Exercise log: 47 minutes of cardio in the morning and after work I decided to help my friend out with his computers again, they all needed to be optimized and freed of all of the applications that take up space but don't do much. Tomorrow I be going in the morning again but after work I have an appointment with a very nice person that wants to interview me for her book. Sounds cool! It's late again so I'm off to bed.
Goodnight,
Zach

Days 63, 64, 65, 66 and 67 - Taking a little vacation...

Oh boy, where to begin. You know when you see a 5-day update I was doing something wrong. I'll try to make this brief.
Day 63 (Friday) Woke up late again so no gym in the morning, left to go camping in Aptos after work so no gym at night again. That's 2 days in a row. Day 63's food intake was pretty good, Kitchen Sink IsaLean Shake for breakfast, Subway Turkey footlong, double meat and veggies only, no cheese, no mayo, no oil. It probably ended up being 800-900 calories and, to be honest, it didn't really satisfy me as much as my other lunches. Dinner was an IsaLean Bar after I had set up the tent and broke open the bottle of Woodford Reserve (bourbon). That's where the weekend started.
Day 64 (Sat.) and 65 (Sun.) can be summed up in two words, drinking and recovery. I had such high hopes on day 62, I was ready for push-ups in the morning and hiking in the afternoon. But then Mr. Woodford Reserve and Mr. Absolute APeach stopped by to pay me a visit and I was very hospitable. The only exercise I did was lugging around heavy DJ equipment (I like to call it weightlifting) and dancing for about 45 minutes (and that's the cardio). What's that? DJ equipment and camping? Well, the camping was really just camping out in Javier Muniz's backyard. He is one of the founders of Broken English, an amazing Latin Jazz band. The backyard is so huge it has it's own stage in the back, that's where I helped set up the DJ equipment.
Food intake on Day 64 started off with the best intentions, I had a IsaLean Bar for breakfast, then as the day wore on, I snacked on this and that, you know, those dishes that end up a big 'ol 200 person picnic parties. Pasta, chips, various meats, strawberries, and some green stuff I didn't try. I don't really remember exactly everything I ate, I know it was more than 600 calories, but I didn't totally pig out, that's one of the great things about this program, after 60 days, I can't pig out like I used to. I just get full too fast. Dinner was a blur by a campfire, I think.
Sunday, Day 65, was recovery day, because I was in a tent, I woke up when the sun hit me, about 8am. I wanted coffee, I had forgotten to take my Monavie and so it was payback time. Thanks to Monavie, I hadn't had a hangover for a year, I almost missed it...almost. After 2 cups of coffee, a donut (aaggh! my first donut in a long while) and a few Advil I was ready to sit around a fire for a few hours and go back to bed. When I woke up in the afternoon, I was ready to go home. When I got home I had an apple and some veggies and went back to bed.
Day 66 (Memorial Day) rolled around, got up around noon for a IsaLean Shake, had the rest of the Garlic Tofu Chicken with wild rice and zucchini for lunch and ate dinner at my boss' house for his birthday. I was bad again at dinner, I should have had an IsaLean Shake, but instead I enjoyed the BBQ birthday dinner. No idea how many calories I had for dinner, probably 1100-1200.
Day 67 Finally getting back into the groove of things. I got up early this morning and did 40 minutes of cardio, after work I decided to go see Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End instead of the gym. Food intake was pretty good, it was a cleanse day so I had the usual "Cleanse for Life" 4 times a day, 3 apples, 3 SlimCakes, a 100 calorie bag of popcorn and some raw almonds. At the movie I had a bag of kettle corn, not such a good idea, but I just love having popcorn at the movies.
As I was driving home from a movie I had to fight myself the whole way home, first I wanted In-and-out Burgers, then it was Jack In The Box, lastly it was McDonalds, this was, of course as I passed each one, I really wanted to go, and I was sure that no one would find out, that is, no one but me. Then I would have to lie in my blog, and then what is this all for. This has got to be the hardest part for me, resisting the really bad foods. I'm glad I resisted the urge, as a reward I gave myself an apple and another SlimCake.
Well, that was a huge entry, it's 1:07am now, I really got to get to bed, goodnight.

Days 61 and 62 - Cheating is such an ugly word, I took a few days off...

Well as life would have it several events guided me though 2 days of no time for the gym, and one day of poor choices in food intake. It's really late now (3:19am) so I have to make this quick, I'll probably come back later and fill in the fine details.
Day 61 and 62 exercise log: none, zero, ziltch, nada, nunca, didn't happen. I allowed my life to get in the way of the gym. It's ok, I've been spending some major time in the gym so I don't feel too bad about it. Now when we talk about food, that's a different story.

On Day 61 I was helping a friend set up a few computers and his home business network for a big project the next morning. If you deal with computers at all, and since you're reading this, you must deal with them a little, you'd know that they don't alway do exactly what you want them to. Long story short, I was up until 4:30 am getting the computers working, I was enjoying several shots of Woodford Reserve bourbon and earlier in the evening, my friend treated me to all you can eat pizza and salad at Mountain Mikes. The good news is, I could only eat 4 slices of pizza and a plate of salad before I was full, I've been to that all you can eat with my girlfriend before. She can tell you, 4 slices was usually the first plate. I could get down 8-10 of those slices, with a salad and some soda to boot. When I felt full, I smiled and knew that this time, cheating was worth it. I am really seeing a change in my eating habits. (Now typing this later) I realized after reading this entry that I didn't say anything about breakfast or lunch on Day 61, so, here it goes: Breakfast was an IsaLean Chocolate Shake blended up "kitchen sink" style. For lunch I had a delicious mixture of wild rice, tofu, low-fat chicken (from a can) and zucchini. My girlfriend had cooked it up the day before and made enough for 2 lunches, each about 480 calories. I also bought a low-fat chicken salad at Trader Joe's (150 calories with dressing) so I was doing well at 630 calories for lunch, then the pizza incident happened and messed everything all up.

Today (Day 62) I was way too tired to make it to the gym in the morning ao I had a IsaLean Bar on the way to work. I kept to the correct food intake with a Trader Joe's Rosemary and Low Fat Chicken Salad lunch. By the end of the work day, I had fallen asleep at my desk, so when I woke up around 8pm, I drove straight home and went to bed. Got up around 11pm to shower and get to work on zach4life.com business, like this very blog. So now it's 3:31am and I gotta hit the hay. Oh! I forgot to tell you guys about this weekend, I'm going camping, and at first, I thought that I would be cheating all weekend. Then I realized that I could just bring IsaLean Bars for breakfast and dinner, then just eat reasonably at lunch. Sure, I'm gonna be drinking around the campfire, but at least I wont be devouring a whole pig or anything. I also realized that I don't have to have a gym to get some exercise in. I know it sounds like a stupid realization but, when you get into a groove like the gym, regular everyday exercising like hiking, crunches, push-ups and so-on, well, they just don't come to mind right away. So this weekend I'm going to celebrate and stick to my plans. I think this will be a really good test to see how well I'll be able to live a regular life and still get exercise and good nutrition in.
Goodnight all,
Zach

Day 59 - Return of the Cleanse Day...

Not much to type because it was a cleanse day:
Exercise log: 43 minute of cardio in the morning, and 27 minutes of cardio in the evening, 70 minutes total. My new goal is to get up to 100 minutes of cardio every day. I also did the isometric exercises while I was on the elliptical.
Food intake: 2 Slimcakes, a 100 calorie bag of popcorn, a few pistachios, a few peanuts, and a couple slices of watermelon. Other than that I had the usual "Cleanse for Life" supplement 4 times throughout the day. It's really late once again, so I gotta keep this short. The pound-a-thon is growing every day, I'm really getting excited about where this is going. Goodnight,
Zach

Day 58 - Holy Cow, It's been 58 days...

Well the website continues to improve but I still need a little help with the formatting. I did good today, didn't cheat too much, and worked out like a dog. That is, if dogs worked out in gyms, for an hour and ten minutes every day! Feeling good today, I got a lot done. Here's the report.
Food intake: An IsaLean Chocolate Dipped Peanut Crunch Bar for breakfast and dinner. For lunch I cooked up some Ahi Tuna steaks and steamed some wild rice. That was 540 calories, I found a slice of a personal sized veggie pizza in the fridge and gobbled it up (+215 calories), then I sliced up some watermelon and ate that up too (+68 calories) and finally I was snacking on sunflower seeds all day (+150 calories). So overall it looks like I had more calories than yesterday (973 total calories) but I still feel good for going to the gym twice today and kicking much buttocks while I was there.
Exercise log: Visited the 24-Hour Fitness twice today, the first time I got it 33 minutes of cardio and I worked out my back on three machines, 3 sets of 10 reps, lifting 100 lbs. on each machine. When I went back in the evening, I did another 37 minutes of cardio to complete my 70 minutes for the day. It's getting late once again (11:43pm) and I still have to hit the shower, so I will bid you goodnight.

Food Intake so far: Breakfast was an IsaLean Chocolate Shake mixed up "Kitchen Sink" style. For lunch I cooked up some of that wild rice from yesterday, added the rest of the canned low fat chicken, crushed up some Ritz crackers for a little crunch and salty flavoring. I drank some Sunny Delight, which was a lot sweeter than I remember, and now I am stuffed. I counted it all up and and I had 700 calories. Not bad and now I want to take a nap. But, I still have to hit the gym, so I'll rest for about 20 minutes and then take off for the first visit today.
I've got some really exciting news coming up so stay tuned, and in case you missed it: http://www.svcn.com/willow_glen/
Front Page News! I'll type more later on.
-It's now later on...11:54pm-
I just got back from the gym, I never made it in the morning so I did an hour of cardio and worked out my shoulders, 3 sets of ten reps on 3 different machines, all machines were set to 40 pounds. For dinner I had an IsaLean Chocolate Dipped Honey Peanut Bar and a bottle of water.
I forgot to mention this earlier (almost on purpose), around lunch Jax had come home with some left over pizza from the Willow Street Woodfire pizza place down on Willow St. near Lincoln. I grabbed a piece of the leftovers and chowed down. Bad, I know it, it just smelled (and tasted) sooooo good.

Day 56 - Today I wanted a corn dog...

I've been trying to type this up for a few hours now but since my friend Leigh sent me some episodes of "Full Metal Alchemist" (http://www.fullmetalalchemist.com/) to watch. It's 2:30am now, I really have to stop the DVD and get to bed. Let's get this part over then I'll get to the corndog:
Food Intake: No, no corn dog, but I came close. A IsaLean "Kitchen Sink" for breakfast. Lunch was awesome, after I got out of bed and before I left the bathroom, my girlfriend had cooked up some wild rice with shredded chicken and fried up some tofu with zucchini. I mixed it all together and packed it for lunch, all together it was about 450 calories and really good. I was still hungry so I had a SlimCake and some dried mango slices. For dinner I had a IsaLean Chocolate dipped Honey Peanut Bar, those a really good, kinda like a candy bar.
For Exercise I did 30 minutes of cardio in the morning, and another 40 minutes at night.
On the way to the gym I was talking to my friend Steve and driving away from the gym. I happened to b driving towards a Wienerschnitzel because I was thinking I would like a corndog, just one corndog wouldn't hurt. The whole time I'm talking to Steve about how great it is to be losing weight and what a great cause it is to be fighting childhood obesity and I find myself parked in the parking lot of a Wienerschnitzel, for a corndog. Once I hung up with Steve I couldn't really believe that I was there, I was feeling great about what I'm doing, Steve even sent in a pledge on the Pound-A-Thon. I got out of there, no corndog, and headed straight to the gym.
It's 3:30 am now and I finished the DVD that Leigh (http://www.leighgriffith.com/) sent to me. Thank's a lot, you got me hooked on yet another animated series (Naruto Rules!), hey, it's just one more thing for us to talk about. Good night!

Day 55 - FRONT PAGE NEWS, the Natural Accelerator and the Hoodia question...

LOOK, I'M THE COVER STORY:
http://www.svcn.com/willow_glen/
Hello Willow Glen Resident readers! Thank you for visiting and reading up on me. Please feel free to read through and comment on anything you like. You can send me emails at "zach@zach4life.com" and don't forget to visit the pledge page, we're just getting started and need as much help as you can offer. If you would like to know more about Isagenix or Monavie, simply click on the links below or visit the Links page of the website.

Someone replied to a post from Days 43 and 44 with a question about Hoodia. When I first started with this program I thought (and I don't know why I had this impression) that the Isagenix Natural Accelerator had Hoodia in it,

I was wrong. Here is a link to the Wiki on Hoodia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoodia

Basically it looks like a cactus from South Africa. It has been marketed as many things, one being an appetite suppressant. Since I have no personal experience with the supplement I can say if it's good or bad, the best thing to do is to read the Wiki article and make your own decision, maybe even try it out to see if it works for you. I did try a drug named Phentermine for a few months and had some success (about 20 pounds of weight loss) but I already take a daily medicine for my heartburn and I felt bad that I needed a drug to convince me that I wasn't hungry. Don't get me wrong, the drug worked, in fact it worked too well, it didn't feel natural anymore and that just felt wrong and I stopped after 3 months. All the weight came back and it brought friends with it. In case you're curious, here's the Wiki on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phentermine
On the with food intake: IsaLean Vanilla "Kitchen Sink" shake for breakfast, Trader Joe's Rosemary Chicken with wild rice and a low fat chicken salad for lunch. I thought it might be helpful to let everyone know how I eat the salads, I throw away the dressing that's included and use my own fat free version of my favorite, ranch. Saves me about 100 to 150 calories each time. For dinner I had a IsaLean Bar and some "Want More Energy?" mixed with water because I was feeling a little light headed after tonight's workout and I couldn't get enough water. I realized that I was probably very, very low on electrolytes, so I mixed a bottle of water with the "Want More Energy?" and a Hawaiian Punch flavored Crystal Light (YUM!).
Since I stayed up late last night, I didn't wake up on time to get to the gym this morning. This evening I went in a busted out an hour on the elliptical, straight through, no breaks. While I was getting my cardio in I did the Isometric exercise (I almost want to call it Isametric ;) ) of pushing outwards on the handles that you would normall use to support your self. When my arms gave out and I could no longer push outwards, I just switched my hands around to the other side of the bar and pushed inwards for as long as I could. It's a great exercise (my muscles are really sore which means more Monavie for me tonight) and it saves time to do it all at once. It's getting late again, I'm getting off to bed, goodnight!
